How many participants do you schedule for one location?
We schedule 4-6 participants per day. We try to schedule a two-day shoot for each location for a total of 8-12 participants per each shoot location
How do we schedule a location?
Mostly by demand. We need a city sponsor, a location sponsor, and at least 4 participants registered before we can book your city on our calendar.
How much does it cost to host the project in my city?
We need a city sponsor at a cost of $250.00 to cover travel expenses. We also need a location sponsor – someone who donates a space for us to speak with and photograph participants.
How much does it cost to participate?
Right now, the participant fee is only $75.00.
How much time do I have to tell my story?
We schedule participants in 90 minutes blocks, with about 10-15 minutes of that time for photographing.
Where will my photograph be published?
Your portrait will be published in our online gallery on our website as well as on our Facebook page and Instagram account. We are also currently working on a traveling gallery exhibit as well as a book. Those are both optional participation.
How do you come up with the caption for my image?
We work with you to decide on which pieces of your story are the most poignant and powerful. If you already know what you’d like your caption to be, we use what you provide us. If you’d like us to come up with something, we ask for your approval before publishing with your photograph.
What is a city sponsor?
A city sponsor is someone who supports the project financially at a fee of $150.00 in order for us to commit to a date and location on our calendar and afford to travel to your city.
What is a location sponsor?
A location sponsor is someone who provides a physical space for us to speak with participants as well as photograph them after our interview time. Ideally, this space has a quiet place for mothers to tell their stories as well as a safe, kid-friendly place with supervision for kiddos to play while their parent is in an interview or being photographed. Snacks, water, and help with childcare is integral to a smooth running day.
How can I donate?
You can go to the ‘participate’ tab in the top menu and then choose ‘donate’. We have various options and levels for donations. This project would not exist without our donors!
Where does my donated money go?
The majority of donated money goes into our travel fund. We have to pay for gas and plane tickets and hotel rooms and train tickets and food when we travel for shoots. We are saving all of the money that we possibly can to grow the project internationally.
Can I bring my child(ren)?
Absolutely! We especially welcome your kiddos to come with you and commemorate such a huge day in both of your lives. Your kids are also invited to participate in a min photo shoot with you after we capture your portrait for the gallery.
What does my participation fee cover?
Your $75.00 participation fee covers travel expenses for Lindsay and Cristen to come to your city.
Are the photographs only published in black and white?
Yes. Black and white photography best highlights the emotion these images portray.
What should I wear?
You can wear whatever you are most comfortable in....whatever you feel best represents yourself. Don’t worry – we won’t be that dressed up!
How many images do I receive from my mini-shoot?
If you choose to bring your children for a mini-shoot, Lindsay will provide you with 3-5 digital images to download for keeping. If you choose to come without your children, Lindsay will send you the image used for the project gallery to keep as well.
Where will the shoot take place?
Each shoot ends up in a different spot than the last one. We’ve met with and photographed women in parks, tattoo parlors, baby boutiques, yoga studios, rooftops, college campuses, hotel lobbies, private homes, backyards, churches, community centers, you name it! We rely on our city and location sponsors to come up with a shoot location for us.
